O Interior Design, no links to Oprah but their work is fab!

A little dinner magic by Bentheim.co.uk
Every home should have THAT room, the one that makes your guests feel like V.I.P's and you like a mining magnet. The look can be created on any budget. It's all about boldness, creating a feature through sheer contrast in size, texture or colour, throw in a little quirkiness here and there and Voila! Drama!

When you realise that a beautiful interior has very little to do with objects and a whole lot to do with spirit, general well being and upliftment you find the soul of interior design
If you have respect for your surroundings and everything has it's perfect place you interact with your world differently you carry yourself differently. My father used to say that the state of your surroundings is the state of your mind. (My bedroom was usually a mess at this point)
Look around your home, let your home be the foundation of your aspiration!!

Lets wrap it up!!

Fabric wrapping methods eco-artware.com

It is the season so I had to do my Christmas bit!!! After popping in to http://cocokelley.blogspot.com/ I decided to also look into Eco wrapping because I simply can't bare the thought of all the trash that collects once the excitement of ripping open the gift wrap subsides! So I am pleased to say that I found a surprising number of sites that offer the Eco gift alternative I especially liked http://www.eco-artware.com/ they have products and great ideas. Also liked http://luckycrow.com/ and a clever product site called http://www.reusablebags.com/
I plan to hire a local seamstress, who uses the income to support her family, to make three different sized fabric gift bags out of the scrap fabric that I have piled up at the back of my closet. The idea being that the fabric bag can then be re-used to put shoes, laundry, underwear in.
If I calculate the cost of buying the paper, tags and ribbon this is cheaper too! :)

It's funny how life works, there is a good chance that I will be moving to Brisbane Australia to study a Degree in Design in Feb 2008, however I have the sudden urge to organise my home office, pointless considering it's use will be shortlived.

I remember as a child nothing was more thrilling then receiving a box of Crayola crayons, I still remember the smell as you broke the cardboard seal, the sight of every colour imaginable all neat and in perfect rows. mmmm....

I collected a few images that would inspire me on a daily basis to create beautiful things & thoughts and in a small way take me back to my Crayola Box.

As you would be aware from my blog I love ceramics, I once did a class to throw a bowl and well lets just say the respect I have for ceramists is huge. My little hands really battled to the point that what were supposed to be large vessels, turned out to be ashtrays (with a little imagination) So now when I see a hand made creation I nod in appreciation.

African Inspired Design

I really appreciate designers that focus on taking community or cultural skills and attempting to position them into the mainstream marketplace thereby protecting not only their culture but their livelyhood as well. I believe that if everyone could earn a living doing what they love the world would be a very different place. This "Se'gou" chair was designed by Cheick Diallo, see http://www.amaridianusa.com/

Red Red Red

One of my large paintings 1800mm x 1050mm the lines you see there are raised for effect.
Apologies for the quality of the photo, uploaded before editing ;)

I worked with a decorator by the name of Caron Mitchell in August this year, this time I was merely one of the artists. I was very impressed with the warmth and character of the room considering it is a hotel.

Project complete

This is a much better ''Áfter'' image taken by the client, good lighting :)
Before shown above (clients image)
After shown below

Here are the photographs from the before & after photo shoot. I did not get as many good images as I thought I did, lesson learned is take way more then you need!! Just one more excuse the light was quite intense it was early afternoon ...OK that's all I got...hope you like my work :)

It involved some heavy lifting where I managed to have my knee collapse underneath me while moving a TV unit up a flight of stairs. All I kept thinking was not matter what don't drop the unit! What dedication!!

We painted the wall behind the server which made an instant impact for the room, added a large sea grass rug to frame the couches, changed TV units (although they collected the wrong unit supposed to be similar colour to the coffee table) Added orange silk cushions to lift all the neutrals and of course rearranged the furniture positioning. The changes where minimal but very necessary and made such a difference. The client is adding some floating shelves for the wall behind the TV unit at the moment it's bare :(
